Coffee Shop The Tweede Kamer

One of the most frequently recommended coffee shops in Amsterdam is 'De Tweede Kamer', situated in the center of town, a five minute walk from Dam square or the Flower Market. The phrase ‘Tweede Kamer’ (Second Room) commonly refers to the upper house of the Dutch Parliament. Some say this salute to the Dutch government was intended, but fact is that Holland’s pragmatism has made cofffee shops like De Tweede Kamer possible.

This tiny little coffee shop was the first to be opened in 1985 and soon became very popular with locals. The consistently high quality of the cannabis and hashish sold here has a lot to do with it. That and the friendly, expert service. The Tweede Kamer serves excellent espresso, coffee, tea, cakes and fruit juices as well.

If you’re lucky enough to find a free seat in the cozy, wood-panneled shop, do hang around. It’s a nice place to relax, shoot the breeze, and watch the shop’s diverse collection of customers. The De Tweede Kamer owns nearby coffeeshop De Dampkring, which is also known for its high quality products and service.
